Ofcom announces the award of a community radio license for a new broadcaster in Aberystwyth.

Ofcom has today announced the award of a community radio license for a new broadcaster in Aberystwyth.
Radio Aber will broadcast to people in Aberystwyth and surrounding areas.

The volunteer-led radio station will be targeting loneliness and bridging the gaps between Ceredigion’s communities. The station will offer local people a platform to promote their views and concerns, ask for help, and for network/signpost services. It will also offer direct support for local artists, musicians, and businesses. An increased sense of community is an increased sense of unity. Listeners will be able to tune into Radio Aber on FM across much of Ceredigion, as well as online for harder to reach areas.

Community radio services are provided on a not-for-profit basis, focusing on the delivery of specific social benefits to a specific area or community of interest.
More than 250 community radio stations are currently on air today. Radio Aber hope to be on the air later this year.
