Response to the news that Radio Ceredigion will not be renewing its FM license.Ymateb i'r newyddion na fydd Radio Ceredigion yn adnewyddu eu trwydded FM.
On Friday we learned that Nation Broadcasting have chosen not to renew their license for Radio Ceredigion when it expires in 2019. Radio Ceredigion has been a much-loved broadcaster in these parts for decades. Since 2010 it has been owned by Nation Broadcasting and we have steadily seen the centralisation of its content outside of the county. Even so we are surprised to hear about their decision regarding the future of Radio Ceredigion.
We haven't had any communication with Radio Ceredigion or Nation Broadcasting as we considered the objectives of our community radio station to differ significantly from that of their commercial organisation. Community radio is a different bracket of Ofcom-regulated broadcasting that is specifically designed to be locally focussed, and is run exclusively by non-profit organisations like Radio Aber.
What matters to us is that the local area is served on a local broadcasting level. We have laid out a particular set of goals to meet within our local area that will, we hope, be of great benefit to the communities around us. We are being driven from a grassroots level towards tackling loneliness, encouraging community engagement, and championing local content.
Fans of local radio can be assured that no matter the outcome of Radio Ceredigion's license expiry next year, Radio Aber continues to work towards creating a fantastic new bilingual service for the communities within the area. We aim to begin broadcasting in early 2019.

Cawsom wybod dydd Gwener fod Nation Broadcasting wedi dewis peidio adnewyddu eu trwydded ar gyfer Radio Ceredigion pan ddaw i ben yn 2019. Mae Radio Ceredigion wedi bod yn ddarlledwr poblogaidd iawn yn yr ardal ers degawdau. Ers 2010 mae wedi bod dan berchnogaeth Nation Broadcasting ac yn raddol rydym wedi gweld eu cynnwys yn cael ei ganoli y tu allan i'r sir. Serch hynny, rydym wedi synnu i glywed eu penderfyniad am ddyfodol Radio Ceredigion.
Nid ydym wedi bod mewn cyswllt hefo Radio Ceredigion na Nation Broadcasting gan ein bod yn ystyried ein hamcanion fel gorsaf radio gymunedol yn wahanol iawn i rai eu sefydliad masnachol. Mae radio cymunedol yn elfen wahanol o'r darlledu sydd dan reolaeth Ofcom, ac mae'n bodoli i fod â ffocws lleol a chael ei redeg yn benodol gan sefydliadau dielw fel Radio Aber. Yr hyn sy'n bwysig i ni ydi fod y gymuned yn cael gwasanaeth ddarlledu leol. Rydym wedi gosod nodau yr ydym yn bwriadu eu cwrdd, ac yn gobeithio y bydd o fudd i'r gymuned o'n cwmpas. Cawn ein gyrru fel menter gymdeithasol i frwydro yn erbyn unigrwydd, meithrin cysylltiad â'r gymuned, a hyrwyddo cynnwys lleol.
Beth bynnag bydd canlyniad diwedd trwydded Radio Ceredigion y flwyddyn nesaf, gall pawb sydd yn mwynhau radio lleol fod yn sicr y bydd Radio Aber yn dal i barhau i weithio tuag at greu gwasanaeth dwyieithog newydd gwych ar gyfer cymunedau'r ardal. Rydym yn bwriadu dechrau darlledu yn gynnar yn 2019.
